A Closer Look at Vitaminwater’s Typography Challenges
An example of typography that I disagree with is the packaging for Vitaminwater. The brand often uses thin, condensed sans-serif fonts for the text-heavy information on the bottle, which can be difficult to read, especially when combined with small font sizes and minimal contrast between the text and background color. For a product that is typically found in stores where customers need to make quick decisions, legibility should be a top priority.
The issue with this typography is that it doesn’t allow for quick, easy reading. The small size and tight spacing between the letters create a cluttered look, which could cause frustration or disengagement from the consumer.
To improve this, I would recommend increasing the font size and choosing a slightly bolder, wider sans-serif font to improve legibility from a distance. Additionally, enhancing contrast between the text and background colors, such as using white or black text on the bright colored backgrounds, would make the information stand out more. This change would ensure that consumers can easily read important details like flavor or nutritional information, enhancing the overall user experience.
